Dave Grohl is frontman of the Foo Fighters and the longest-running drummer for Nirvana, but in his personal life, this rock star is devoted to his three young daughters, 12-year-old Violet Maye, nine-year-old Harper Willow, and four-year-old Ophelia Saint.

So devoted, in fact, that he sometimes brings them along with him on his gigs, like a benefit concert held back in May for the Benioff UCSF Children’s Hospital in Oakland, California.

As the face of the Foo Fighters, Dave’s used to being front and center, and he headlined that evening’s “Notes + Words” show. But he ceded the spotlight to Violet for one special song that night, and fans were treated to the sweetest father-daughter performance!
Dave primed the audience before they got started: “I remember her saying, ‘Dad, you’re not even the best singer in the family,’ and she’s right.” Violet takes it away from there, singing Adele’s “When We Were Young,” with Dad playing an acoustic guitar just steps away!

The cheers erupt when she’s just two or three words into the song and continue in bursts throughout the piece, each time eliciting a smile she can barely contain. It’s clear she and her dad have a deep and abiding love and affection not just for each other, but for the music and memories they’re making together that night!
When the last note’s sung and the auditorium fills with loud clapping and cheering, Violet grins with embarrassment because, hey, she’s just 12, and it’s not like she’s had years of experience performing in front of sold-out crowds like her dad over there. Still, she breaks out into a wide smile and looks over at him, silently asking, “Did I do okay?”
