While hiking at Mount Rainier National Park, Mom Alisha had a fantastic opportunity to view life through the eyes of a child. Carrying her daughter in a backpack carrier along the trail, the toddler remarked, I wanna see more mushrooms!”

They weren’t seeing just any old mushrooms. These beautiful fungal growths were obviously the model for the mushroom character Dash in Mario Cart. With a bright red canopy speckled with white dots, the mushrooms were unlike anything either hiker had seen. There was a variety of colors, all with tiny dotted canopies. Alisha added a slide show to display the variations they saw on their hike.
It’s no wonder her toddler wanted to see more mushrooms. The bright colors and contrasting white dots are stunning. They saw several bright red mushrooms and others in shades ranging to pale yellow.
The commentary posted on Alisha’s slide show tells her fans that she had no clue such beautiful mushrooms existed, and many of us did, too. All this time, we thought Dash’s iconic red helmet with white dots was the creation of a graphic artist solely for Mario Cart.
The mushroom hike wasn’t their first. The mother-daughter duo has hiked together all over the Northwest, including through the gorge at Portland, viewing waterfalls and incredible scenery. The toddler may not say much, but when she does, it is an exclamation about what they’re seeing. Her voice allows us to see the world with a different perspective through the innocent eyes of a child.
