Dick Van Dyke is an absolute legend in the entertainment industry, and now he’s got another credential to add to his roster: he’s the oldest man ever nominated for a Daytime Emmy!

At 98 years old, Dick has seen a lot. His launch to stardom was in 1960 when he took the stage in Bye, Bye, Birdie and won a Tony.

Shortly thereafter, he starred in the movie production of the show, and his career was fully off to the races.

This Daytime Emmy nomination is for Outstanding Guest Performer in a Drama Series for his guest appearance on the television show Days of Our Lives.

He’s been a legend of stage and screen, movies and film, dance and song. There’s hardly anything he can’t do!

The interviewer in the clip above asked him whether he intended to grab an Oscar nomination, and he laughed, saying, “Gimme a shot at it! Now that I’m a dramatic actor!”

Wise Words From The Beloved Actor

Dick’s playful approach to life has made him a well-loved actor. There’s a long list of fabulous Dick Van Dyke quotes, but my favorite has to be this one:

“Just knowing you don’t have the answers is a recipe for humility, openness, acceptance, forgiveness, and an eagerness to learn — and those are all good things.”

We should definitely be listening to this amazing nonagenarian (that’s a person who lives into their 90s, FYI)!

Dick Van Dyke’s fans span all demographics. Even the TikTok crew love him.

“I feel like him and Julie Andrews genuinely raised me,” commented one viewer.

“He doesn’t have an Oscar? How does this living legend not have an Oscar?” said another.

And, not only is he the oldest nominated — but he won! Congrats, Dick!
