Heartwarming: Volunteers Dress As Disney Princesses, Bring Joy To Sick Kids In Hospitals

The Princess Program Foundation began as a tiny seed in the imagination of Alyssa Banks. Her heart was broken when a child told her they would never get to go to Disney due to illness. As the wheels began to turn, the idea for the Princess Program Foundation was born. If the kids couldn’t go to Disney, Alyssa would bring Disney to the kids.

Princess Program volunteers dress as Disney princesses and visit sick kids in hospitals, homes, and on Zoom. The nonprofit program is now nationwide. Working with an incredible team of “supporting actors,” Alyssa has been able to bring the program to life. In her bio she says, “Seeing what these families go through and getting to bring them light and magic, is the greatest gift of all.”

The Princess Program Foundation is based in Boston, Massachusetts. The character actors have one mission: “to help kids fight with magic.” The princesses travel to homes, children’s hospitals, and will set up virtual options via Zoom for families they can’t reach in person. Virtual options allow the group to create worldwide connections, spreading the magic across oceans.

A comment under the video posted above from TikTok user Karma tells a story of its own. The video mentions the nurses in the background watching the princesses interact with patients. Crystal Boswell/Karma said, “Those aren’t nurses in the background, those are little girls who once had the same dream of being a princess.” She is probably spot-on with that assessment.

The Princess Program has visited hospitals in Boston, Orange County, California, Orlando, Florida, Salt Lake City, Utah, Providence, Rhode Island, and many others. Travel is funded with a variety of fundraising efforts.

The Princess Program Foundation doesn’t just help kids. When the princesses are visiting with children, it helps the family too. They can use the time to take a break from the constant diligence these situations require. It lets the family run errands, offers much-needed attention to siblings, and more.
