Dog Dad Can’t Stop Cracking Up At Great Dane’s Massive “Cone Of Shame”

When vets put a “cone of shame” on your dog, it’s usually to protect them from hurting themselves while recovering from illness or injury. However, this particular medical treatment has the added benefit of looking hilarious! One dog dad thought it was especially funny when his Great Dane came home with an absolutely enormous cone to keep him from licking his tail after surgery. Poor Pongo looked pretty silly wearing the huge device on his head!

Mom captured a video of her husband cracking up over the dog’s predicament. According to her, the vet had to get pretty creative in order to construct a cone of shame big enough for the Great Dane’s needs. In the clip, you can clearly see that this massive structure had been taped together.

“That one time the vet had to Frankenstein a cone to fit my giant dog & my husband could not look at him without losing it,” the woman wrote over the footage.

As Pongo wandered around the house wearing the incredibly large cone of shame, his dad couldn’t help laughing hysterically. This dog must have been so confused by the whole situation!

Here’s why Pongo had to wear such a big “cone of shame.”

When a commenter asked why the Great Dane needed the cone, Mom explained that the animal had recently undergone tail surgery.

“Thankfully he only had to wear it while sleeping/unsupervised,” she added.

In another post, the woman shared that the reason vets had to fashion a special cone for the Great Dane was that it “had to be long enough to cover his tail.” That way, Pongo wouldn’t be able to reach around and chew on the healing area.

The Spruce Pets tells us that there’s a reason many of us use the term “cone of shame” when our pets need to wear one of these devices — and it’s not just because it makes them look so ridiculous. This phrase apparently became popular after Dug, the beloved pooch from Pixar’s Up, said it during the movie.

Of course, whatever you choose to call the cone of shame, you can be sure that your pet will hate wearing it. At least it’s usually a temporary solution!
