Now this is what we call a Christmas miracle! One Florida family was worried sick when their precious dog, Athena, went missing — that is, until she made an unexpected return. This clever pooch not only found her own way home, but she was courteous enough to ring the doorbell when she got there! Her owners couldn’t be more relieved to have her back.

KSBW 8 tells us that Athena ran off on December 15, prompting a community-wide search for the lost pup. People sifted through doorbell camera footage in hopes of discovering some clue as to where the rogue canine had disappeared to. Meanwhile, owner Brooke Comer looked everywhere she could think of. However, it wasn’t until nine days later that the missing dog finally returned home — just in time for Christmas!

“It was about 2:30 a.m. She came pawing at the door, ringing the doorbell,” Brooke recalled. “Which was Christmas Eve.”

This missing dog actually rang the doorbell when she got home — and there’s footage to prove it!

KENS 5 shared a video on social media showing doorbell camera footage of the missing dog’s miraculous return. Athena did, in fact, reach up with her front paws and ring the doorbell! Then, she waited for her family to answer. Brooke was overjoyed when she opened the door!

“Like I was excited, but I tried not to wake up the kids but the kids woke up anyways from the excitement,” she told KSBW 8.

Brooke also revealed that the missing dog started behaving a little differently after her return. Apparently, Athena is a German shepherd and husky mix. Previously, this pooch had never shown her husky side through the signature howling associated with this breed. However, that’s changed!

“She has not stopped whining or howling since she’s got home, so she’s definitely found her voice,” said her owner.

Now that Athena is safe and sound, her family has decided to get the animal microchipped. That way, if she ever goes missing again, they’ll be able to find her much more easily!
