One of Dolly Parton’s Most Favorite Songs Was One Of Her First Hits

She recently told The Guardian that while she loves “all of them”, a few of her songs are particularly meaningful.

“I think the one that’s most personal to me is the lil’ Coat of Many Colors because it talks about my mom, my parents, and kind of gives you an insight. It also covers bullying, acceptance, and all that,” she said. “Of course, the one that’s most recorded is Jolene. That seems to be the favorite—do you know that song has been recorded, somebody told me, 450 times in the last 52 years? I’m so proud of it.”

Another incredible artist, Whitney Houston, covered one of Dolly Parton’s other favorite songs. She recorded I Will Always Love You in 1973. It became a smash hit for Whitney nearly 20 years later when she recorded a cover for The Bodyguard soundtrack.

At 78, Dolly isn’t slowing down quite yet. She’s ready to share a unique experience with fans in Dolly Parton’s Threads: My Songs in Symphony. The brand-new symphonic experience will be at the Nashville Symphony on March 20, 2025. She’ll have stops across the country where Dilly Parton’s fans will see her come to life on screen and learn the stories behind her favorite songs.

“The threads of my life are woven together through my songs,” Dolly said of the project. “That’s why this project, Threads: My Songs In Symphony, is so special to me. It’s all about sharing my music and my musical journey with audiences in a new way. I’m really excited for fans to experience it for the first time with the Nashville Symphony!”
