At this point, it seems as though there’s nothing the iconic Dolly Parton hasn’t done — just last night, she added “be a Pet Gala host” to her list! It wasn’t long ago that the country singer first announced this special event featuring her famous friends, music, and lots of adorable pups. As if that doesn’t sound amazing enough, there was even a dog fashion show! To kick off the event, Parton sang a particularly fitting song of hers: Puppy Love.

Parton has lots and lots of songs, but this one holds a special place in her heart like no other. That’s because it’s the very first single that she recorded — and she was only 13 years old when she did! Parton would go on to include it in her very first album. It’s also the first song of hers she heard on the radio.

“I remember the first time I heard myself on the radio,” she shares in her 2020 book, Songteller. “I about killed myself — I was sitting up on the counter, and the radio was on — I jumped off the counter and slid and fell trying to get to the radio to turn it up.”

The song is about young love, but it also made for a fitting opener to the Pet Gala. Parton donned a bright red outfit featuring dog paws, only adding to the already pawsome start to the show. Fans at home immediately took to social media to rave over the iconic performance.
Then, soon after, Parton delighted fans even more with a surprise. Turns out, she recently re-recorded Puppy Love, and it’s available to stream right now! This latest release is called Puppy Love (Billy Version), which is fittingly in honor of her French bulldog with the same name.
You can never truly know what Parton will do next — and we love her all-the-more for it!
