Donnie Wahlberg “Could Literally Cry Just Thinking About” Tom Selleck’s Goodbye To “Blue Bloods”

Tom Selleck Donnie Wahlberg

For 14 seasons, devoted fans followed the Reagan Family in Blue Bloods. They fought crime for the New York City Police Department while supporting each other both on and off the beat. Tom Selleck plays patriarch Frank Reagan, and Donnie Wahlberg plays his eldest son, Danny. The pair formed an incredible bond both on and off-screen. One that Donnie will miss terribly.

Tom Selleck and Donnie Wahlberg Became A Real Family

With only seven more episodes before the series finale, Donnie told Sirius XM Andy Cohen Live that he would miss his co-stars, Tom, Will Estes, and Bridget Moynahan.

“I felt tremendous gratitude, not saditude, but everyone cried. Everyone was crying, of course. The last day was heartbreaking,” he admitted.

Donnie said that his life has changed completely in the years since Blue Bloods began. He and his wife Jenny McCarthy hadn’t met yet when the show started.

“It was a lot of emotions,” he explained. “Because in one sense, the 14 years went by in the blink of an eye. In another sense, it’s been 14 years of my life… I didn’t even know my wife when the show started.”

Donnie Wahlberg spoke of his love for Tom Selleck and the way he supported everyone on set. Tom helped Donnie work through his scenes and develop his character.

“It’s not, I don’t show up and go, ‘Tell me what to do, Tom’…   we have a back and forth… there’s a process and he respects me… what I do and what I bring to the table as I do him.”

Donnie added of Tom, “He’s really tall and he’s standing above everyone in the back corner just watching with tears in his eyes. It just was like the waterworks turned on. I could literally cry just thinking about it.”

Donnie shared an Instagram post on October 18 sporting a Blue Bloods jacket captioned, “Love this city! Thank you, New York. It’s been an amazing fourteen years. We are onto the final season. Happy Blue Bloods Friday to all.”
