For such a little girl, Drew Barrymore sure had a loud scream! On a recent episode of The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon reminded the actor of a hilarious moment from her childhood. She was only seven years old when she appeared on the same talk show for the very first time while Johnny Carson was its host. In her interview, she’d been asked to give her best scream. Boy, did she deliver!
In the old clip, Drew Barrymore’s scream was so loud and shrill that Johnny Carson actually stood up in surprise! She informed the host that she practiced this at home all the time, which was why she had gotten so good at it. Looking back at the iconic moment, Barrymore and Fallon started cracking up.
“It is so charming,” Fallon said of the precocious child actor’s early interview. He then added, “And look at what a great woman you’ve become.”
Drew Barrymore got a little emotional watching the footage of her younger self, even while laughing at her hilariously powerful scream.
“You know what’s so wild when I look at that?” she asked Fallon. “My legs don’t touch the ground.”
Drew Barrymore has grown up a lot… but she’s still learning.
Barrymore is one of the rare child actors who was able to translate their early talent into a sustainable career in film. And, as she told the audience on The Tonight Show, she’s still learning as an adult.
“We all are growing up together,” she said. “I’m 49 years old, and … I’m just growing up with everyone.”
However, she added that there’s one area where she’s probably done maturing.
“My legs touch the ground now!” she said.
It’s amazing to see how much Drew Barrymore has changed since she was a seven-year-old showing off her loud scream on The Tonight Show. She’s a mom herself now as well as a wildly successful actor and the host of her own show, The Drew Barrymore Show. What a long way she’s come!
