On Tuesday, February 11, 2025, the folks at Duolingo announced the sad passing of their mascot, Duo Keyshauna Renee Lingo. Known as Duo the Owl, the Duolingo mascot has been around since 1000 BC. He was deployed as the mascot of the language App when it launched in 2012. His demise was announced via the official accounts on X and TikTok.

Duo’s untimely death at the hands of an unidentified Cybertruck driver has created mayhem in online communities. On February 13, 2025, Duo’s helpers mysteriously perished in seemingly unrelated incidents.

Since Duo left this plane of existence, there has been a flurry of sympathy. The event has prompted a savage series of mascot killings. The “streak” of mascot killings began with the Vita Coco mascot. After the death of the Vita Coco mascot, the folks at Dr. Squatch announced that their mascot was reeling. To put him out of his misery, they boasted about killing him.
Foot Locker’s mascot, Locky, had intended to ask Duo to be his Valentine. He dropped to the ground after hearing news of Duo’s death. The bottle mascot from MAGGI Kochstudio sprung a leak. The Oodie mascot got the news while crafting a Valentine’s card for Duo. They’ve launched a search party for the killer, but they went into hiding after spotting a renegade Cybertruck cruising the streets.
The mascot world is in turmoil. If you see a mascot openly weeping, you might offer a few consoling words or a sympathetic nod. We know there have been more fatalities.

The award for the most heartless response to this tragedy belongs to Buffalo Wild Wings. They have no remorse.
