As Mama Elk wandered down the sidewalk in Estes Park, she seemed to be peering into windows of each business as she passed. It was almost like she was running errands! Meanwhile, her little calf trotted along right next to her, taking in all the sights. The younger animal seemed curious, but a little bit shy. They pretty much stuck close to Mom throughout the excursion.

A woman on social media posted an excellent video of these elk sauntering through Estes Park, and it’s going viral online! Commenters loved seeing the animals enjoying their mother-calf date.

“Don’t mind us we just want to do a little window shopping,” joked one user. “Beautiful animals.”

Another added, “That’s one of the reasons I love Estes Park.”

Estes Park is pretty close to a major national park.

While it’s fairly uncommon to see elk hanging around shopfronts, one might argue that this is slightly less of an anomaly in Estes Park. That’s because this downtown area is right next to Rocky Mountain National Park. This magical destination is teeming with wonderful wildlife, so it’s no wonder that this Colorado town has the occasional four-legged visitor!

We’re so glad to see that everyone in the viral video kept a respectful distance from the elk and her calf in Estes Park. Even though it seemed like these critters weren’t especially afraid of or aggressive towards people, it’s never a good idea to get too friendly with wild animals!
