Family Cat Becomes “Safe Space” For Nervous Foster Kittens

Image shows a tiny foster kitten (right) seeking comfort from an adult tabby cat in its temporary home.

Pepper is a tiny kitten being fostered by SoccerCatMom in Hobart, Washington. Poppy is their adult gray tabby cat and Pepper has decided that Poppy is his “safe place.” As with most foster kittens, there is a period of adjustment as they grow accustomed to their new surroundings. It took Pepper less than two seconds to pick his safe place and make a beeline to Poppy.

Our shy and timid foster kitten Pepper gravitates towards Poppy because he knows she is a safe space. He was feeling a bit nervous, so walked right over to her for comfort. ❤️ #catlover #cat #cats #kitten #catsoftiktok #kittensoftiktok #catmom #catlife #fosterkitten #fostercat #catlovers #fosterlife #cute #love #comfort #petlover #animallover

Little Pepper is quivering, but Poppy showed no hesitation in adopting the little waif. She immediately began nuzzling and grooming the tiny kitten. It’s almost like the nurturing adult cat has done this whole foster kitten thing before. Oh… right… she has.

This is not SoccerCatMom’s first adventure in fostering animals. As the new kittens settle in, they find Poppy to be warm, comforting, and reassuring. The kind and gentle tabby takes her foster mother role seriously too. With headbutts and gentle nuzzling, she communicates to little Pepper that he is safe with her.

SoccerCatMom looks forward to seeing many foster kittens pass through her sanctuary. She knows that each new visitor will be well cared for by Poppy. The tabby seems born to the role and relishes the interactions with each tiny kitten. Here she applies gentle loving care to a spicy ginger kitten.

Fostering kittens can be like Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get. Many fosters start out timid and reserved, and their shyness might cause them to avoid interactions with other animals. Having an adult, nurturing cat like Poppy makes fostering easy. She makes every foster baby feel comfortable and welcome from the moment they arrive at their temporary home.

Please share these cuddly baby kittens.
