Fat shaming is usually frowned upon. However, wildlife officials could not help themselves after trail cam footage revealed an extremely fat black bear. Colorado Parks & Wildlife SW Region posted still images and videos on X on from October 18. That was just the beginning. The hilarious thread on X belongs in the Black Bear Fat Shaming Hall of Fame.

🐻 We thought we had seen really fat Durango bears before. But this one takes the cake.

It also probably ate the cake. Every cake. pic.twitter.com/6UprGncltX
The original post said, “We thought we had seen really fat Durango bears before. But this one takes the cake. It also probably ate the cake. Every cake.” That wasn’t enough, though. With a video post, wildlife officials wondered how much more this already obese bear felt he needed to eat. While it is true that bears “pack it on” before hibernation, this bear does seem excessively large.

The above video included the caption, “He’s a thicc boi!” Indeed, he is. It wasn’t just the official wildlife trail cams catching sight of this larger-than-life fat bear. X user Carrie Soults caught the animal wandering through her yard on a Ring camera. The bear is just strolling through without a care in the world. It was probably looking for its next snack.
We caught Durango Tubby wandering thru our lard… I mean, yard. Surprised we didn’t find him sleeping there in the morning. @CPW_SW @KyleClark #FatBearWeek #kegbelly pic.twitter.com/X24tcDcMEC

In another video post, wildlife officials wondered, “When he sits, how does he not just roll over?” The roasting is still going on, with various users adding their fat bear jokes. Christopher Fryant, a digital artist, created some cake of his own to add to the feeding frenzy. The masterfully crafted video asks, “Cake, you say?”

The jokes kept coming as X users continued roasting the fat bear. He is definitely prepared for a long hibernation. Some users wondered if his outrageous size were a sign the winter would be extremely brutal this year. Time will tell.
