In a viral TikTok, Firefighter J. Abernathy posted the first volley of a water balloon war between fire and police departments. In the sleepy town of Rome, Georgia, things can get boring. When two police vehicles stopped in a parking lot across from the fire station, the firefighters decided to have a little fun. You can find the original video here.

The fire department let loose with a perfectly aimed shot using a sophisticated slingshot launching apparatus. They launched the balloon from a second-story window. The water balloon, seemingly coming from nowhere, exploded on the hood of a police department SUV. The second patrol car flashed its sirens for a second to acknowledge the direct hit.
We know the firemen got a massive laugh out of their efforts. The police were too far away to hear if they were laughing. We’re hoping they were. Viewers requested firefighters post the video with the original sound. You can hear the balloon sail through the air before making a dull thud on the vehicle.

No one knows if this was the first volley in what will become an epic Battle Royale, but we can hope. Regardless of how this water balloon war plays out, the fire department deserves kudos for their perfectly aimed shot. There is no way to gauge the exact trajectory at that distance, but the aim was perfect, resulting in a direct hit. The audible thud and visible splash are very evident in the video.
Water balloon wars are always fun. It doesn’t matter if they are like this opening volley or watching Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson catch one from his daughter.
Please share if you have ever taken part in a water balloon war. If not, start one today!
