No two Airbnb rentals are the same. For the most part, that’s the fun of staying at one! For example, this rental in New York comes with a visit from an adorable cat named Cinnamon. Unfortunately for Hailey and her friends, the surprise they got during a trip was not of the friendly feline variety.

This unexpected moment took place not long after they arrived at their Airbnb. In fact, it seems Hailey and her group were still getting to know the space, checking out fun details they were noticing. One they simply had to check out was a hidden basement. They figured getting a closer look would make for a good video, but they didn’t quite expect the one they got… check it out below!

In this short clip, we see Hailey and her group start to investigate the basement. But before they can even step one foot downstairs, a girl’s voice echoes out. While many people in the comments think she’s saying “sorry,” that’s actually Hailey’s mom talking. All the mystery girl can be heard saying in the video is “hello.”

There are a few theories as to who this girl was — perhaps the Airbnb owner or the previous guest who had yet to leave. All we know for sure is what Hailey and her friends have revealed so far, as seen in the video above. But based on that, it seems this stranger continues to be a mystery for them, too…
“I do not feel updated?! Who was she? Was she the host? What did the police do?” someone ponders, another admitting, “This update gave me even more anxiety about the situation.”
