Sofiane is a French pianist known for shunning the elitist ideas surrounding classical piano. He can play just about anything, from the classics to rap music. When Cercle Music asked him to perform in Lapland, Finland, miles north of the arctic circle, he gave the world an incredible gift of sight and sound.

During his one-hour-and-18-minute performance, Sofiane battled frozen fingers and frigid temperatures in order to play while the elusive northern lights flared brilliantly overhead. He later called the night “magical” and said he’d never forget it, tweeting, “Such a powerful & poetic atmosphere to share my music w/ u all.”

“I felt so much emotions from that sky that I had to give back from my piano,” he continued. “It was tough as my fingers were literally frozen. I struggled until the very last note as I knew the moment was special.”

We’re so glad he endured the cold to give us this gift! Watch the video below, and be sure to share.
