Friends Raise $30K So Single Mom Who Battled Homelessness & Illness Can Watch Son Swim In Olympics

Ivan Puskovitch Olympics Fundraiser

Ivan Puskovitch will be the first to tell you his Olympic dreams were made possible by the love and devotion of his mother, Robyn Rabinovitch. His journey wasn’t easy. Robyn raised Ivan and his brother, Vlad, as a single mom. The family struggled financially, but Robyn wanted her sons to pursue their dreams.

Robyn told Good Morning America that she knew Ivan was a gifted swimmer. So she sent him to a private school to train and master his craft.

A Friend Insisted She Could Help Get Ivan Puskovitch‘s Mom To The Olympics

Robyn’s dedication to her children inspired her friend, Kathy Morella. When she learned Ivan would be swimming in the men’s 10km race in Paris, she made it her goal to get Robyn there. She convinced the mom to allow her to create a GoFundMe, and the donations poured in, raising more than $31,000.

Kathy wrote on the page, “Our goal has been reached but additional donations welcome and appreciated and will be used for incidental travel expenses or medical debt related to chronic kidney illness. So very thankful to everyone who donated!!”

Robyn shared with Good Morning America her gratitude, “I can’t believe so many people have banded together to try to make sure that I’m going to be able to be there to see my son in the Olympics, living out his dream.”

You can tune in to see Ivan swim on Friday, August 9.
