For young people with the Garden of Dreams Foundation, stopping the spread of COVID-19 meant having to postpone their most important show of the year, the annual Talent Show at Radio City Music Hall. That said, the non-profit is not going to let this stop them from spreading hope through music.

Garden of Dreams is a non-profit charity dedicated to bringing life changing opportunities to young people in need. In partnership with The Madison Square Garden Company and MSG Networks, Garden of Dreams provides young people in with access to educational and skills opportunities; mentoring programs; and memorable experiences that enhance their lives, help shape their futures and create lasting joy. Since its inception in 2006, the organization has impacted more than 375,000 young people and their families — many of whom are affected by health issues, financial struggles and those whose parents are service members.

The foundation hosts more 500 events and programs each year, including its signature event – an annual talent show at New York City’s famous Radio City Music Hall. Young performers spend months rehearsing for the event, which is free to the public. It’s also incredibly popular, with celebrity guests mentoring the performers during the weeks and months leading up to the event and the entire venue packed.

While the kids are understandably heartbroken at having to put their big day on hold, they haven’t lost their optimism. They’re still rehearsing and being encouraged by previous talent show alumni, who came together in a beautiful gesture of support. Joined by former “The Voice” contestant Wé McDonald, the Alumni Ensemble performed Andra Day’s “Rise Up” in a video call.

“Tonight at Radio City Music Hall, our Talent Show performers would have taken the Great Stage to celebrate their unique voices and talents,” the foundation wrote. “Even though the #BeyondADream Talent Show has been postponed, our Talent Show alumni want to share this hopeful message.”

The collective performance was as uplifting as it was magical. Their beautiful voices, paired with the lyrics about overcoming adversity,  brightened thousands of listeners’ days – including the young performers mourning the loss of their talent show.
