German Pointer Does The Most Pointer Thing In Hilarious Encounter With Stranger

a german pointer standing in the snow

The German shorthaired pointer is a medium-sized hunting dog with an instinct to “point” to its prey. In hunting, they are primarily used to locate a hunter’s kills, such as a duck shot in flight or an animal that runs. They are highly intelligent and enjoy plenty of exercise. TikTok user smallbabybug posted a video of a pointer doing a completely pointer thing.

how are they simultaneously smart and stupid lol he did this for ten min. I had to close my curtains so he’d return to his owner. also creepy. #pointer #germanpointer

The dog belongs to a neighbor. It spotted Bugs in her window and struck the pose. Well, it almost struck the pose, but the poor thing appears broken or confused. Rather than standing with one front paw raised, this German pointer has its right rear leg raised. This modified pointer pose is adorable but also worrying.

After the dog remained in the same position for ten minutes, Bugs became concerned. It was cold, with snow on the ground, and the animal appeared to be shivering. As she watched from her window, the dog did not move a muscle. She finally closed the curtains, hoping that by cutting off the view, the dog would eventually go home.

The comment section is full of genuine hilarity. The first comment from user Seasthegal says, “I’ll watch your whole family eat dinner.” That quote is from a Joe Rogan podcast, and Bugs felt obligated to repost the video with that soundtrack. The podcast has some less-than-admirable language, but you can listen to it here. The soundtrack with Bugs’ video is TikTok perfection.

We’re unsure if the German pointer ever went home. It may have stayed frozen in place until warmer weather arrived. One thing is sure: This dog knew its job, and aside from the crossed wires that caused the backward pointing, his poise was impeccable.
