When Melanie James found out her giant rabbit was paralyzed from a collapsed hip in May, she had no idea what to do. The vet had told her, “the nicest thing would be to put her down,” but Melanie, who adopted Bertha the bunny four years ago, refused..

In fact, Melanie’s response was simply that “she still [has] so much life!”

So, channeling her innovative side, Melanie purchased a doggie wheelchair. “I’ve actually seen dogs in wheelchairs and I thought ‘if it works for a dog, then why not a rabbit?”

The fluffy bunny is now hopping up a storm with her “back leg” replacements and couldn’t be happier!

“Hopefully, within the not-too-distant future, she will regain mobility herself,” said Melanie. “The vet and myself can’t believe how well the chair’s actually working.”

That’s what we love to hear – a story of perseverance and determination for the betterment of another.
