Golden Retriever Returns From Meadow With New “Puppy” — A Deer Fawn!

One dog mom was shocked when her golden retriever tried to bring home a baby deer! This woman caught some hilarious footage of her pooch, Sadie, prancing around with a little fawn. Not only did the friendly dog seem quite taken with the wild animal, but the deer was also very interested in Sadie! The owner couldn’t believe the attachment these two formed in a matter of moments.

There’s a possibility that the fawn thought this golden retriever was actually a grown-up deer. After all, the baby did try to feed from her! Sadie’s mom caught a once-in-a-lifetime photo of the little animal attempting to nurse.

Although the friendship between the baby deer and the golden retriever was pretty cute, the dog’s owner was worried. She had no idea what to do with the fawn, especially if their parents weren’t around!

“Sadie, you can’t keep that,” Mom joked. “You’ve got to put that back where you found it.”

On a more serious note, she added, “What are we going to do with this?”

Thankfully, the baby deer’s mom came back.

Eventually, the dog’s owner decided that the best course of action was to separate the two. Sure enough, once the golden retriever was out of sight, Mama deer returned.

“I really don’t know what we would have done with this little fawn,” said Sadie’s mom, relieved.

One commenter was curious to know if the dog actually had any milk to share with the baby animal. Her owner confirmed that, yes, this golden retriever was a recent mom, so she could actually feed the deer!

“She was drying up from a litter of puppies we had,” the woman explained in her response.

It’s amazing how motherly instincts can translate across species! Even though this golden retriever was definitely not the deer’s mom, she still felt the need to care for this fawn. What a sweet dog!
