Grandma Sings “Amazing Grace” With Street Performer And Melts Our Hearts.

Two panels showing a grandmotherly woman with a street busker, singing karaoke in New York.

Walking the streets of New York, there are many sights to see, including street performers aplenty! When this video opens, we see a young street performer saying goodbye to an older woman. In the background, we notice a curious lady with pink hair standing up and walking toward the busker. Behind him is a sign that says, “Sing with me for free.” He also wears a t-shirt with “Sing with me,” emblazoned on the front.

The hesitant, grandmotherly woman, later identified as Lydia, walks up slowly and says hi. The busker, named Reggie, introduces himself and asks if she would like to sing a song. Lydia says yes and selects the song: “Amazing Grace.” Reggie quickly works some magic on an iPad, calling up the lyrics for her to follow along with. He begins playing accompaniment on his guitar, as she takes the microphone and begins. Although she has an unsteady start, Lydia gains confidence as she continues.

Reggie might be more well-known as “More Guitaro” on YouTube. His username, “singwithme5964,” is a tell-tale identification of the purpose of his YouTube channel. Reggie offers an opportunity to sing your heart out on the streets of New York as a free service (although we’re sure he takes tips). With a warm demeanor and genuine smile, he makes you feel welcome. His encouragement and accompaniment add to the entire experience. His YouTube channel contains videos similar to the one we found with Lydia. What a cool and interesting way to share an experience, have fun, and meet new people!
