Every manager of a grocery store has to take on certain responsibilities. There are the obvious tasks, like supervising staff and maintaining various store operations. Then there are the responsibilities that no one can truly prepare for ahead of time. One of those moments happened in the parking lot of a Food Lion grocery store in South Carolina. It all started when a customer’s car began to quickly fill with smoke.

Although we aren’t told exactly how, a store manager caught wind of this incident. Without hesitation, he jumped into action himself. With a fire extinguisher in hand, he made his way to the vehicle. Because the door wouldn’t open, he had to find a way to break the window. Doing so gave him the access needed to put out the fire. See this heroic manager save the day in the video below.

When a Customer’s Car Fills Up With Smoke, This Grocery Store Manager Heroically Steps Up to Save the Day
As the video shows, breaking the window took a bit of work. Still, in the end, this manager is able to do what is needed to keep the fire from getting worse. Plus, he even manages to do so while staying surprisingly calm. This is true even when the car door refused to open, despite the owner letting him know it is, in fact, unlocked after all.
In this moment, the owner lets him that that she has “trouble with it,” referring to the door lock. Many have misheard her as saying she “had a candle lit.” On the contrary, the cause of the fire remains unknown, at least to the public.
While it’s still devastating that this woman’s car was damaged, we’re so grateful that this heroic store manager was able to intervene just in time!
