Groom With Terminal Cancer Weds The Love Of His Life In Moving Hospital Ceremony.

Bride and groom smile at a table with their 2-year-old son at their wedding reception at a hospital.

Alexander Santos and his now wife, Heather, first met when the two of them were in high school. A couple of years passed before they started dating in 2019 but, soon after, they welcomed their 2-year-old son into the world. Then, last November, they received life-changing news. Alexander has a non-seminoma germ cell tumor, and it’s terminal. With months to several years left to live, there was one thing he needed to do while he could: get married to the love of his life.

With help from staff at Piedmont Columbus Regional in Columbus, Georgia, a whole ceremony and reception took place in the hospital where Alexander is staying. Folks showed up from all around, there were decorations, and Publix donated a cake. The bride and groom even donned a wedding dress and tuxedo. Everything came together beautifully just four days after Alexander’s request.

“I’m with the person I love and wouldn’t change anything for the world,” Alexander said after their ceremony.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help cover the cost of his medical bills.
