The former One Direction star reportedly fell from a balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on October 16, per People. As teenagers, Liam and his bandmates Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson shot to fame on The X-Factor U.K. in 2010. The band stayed together until 2016 and sold 70 million records worldwide. They were one of the best-selling boy bands of all time.

Harry Styles’ Mom Knew Liam For A Long Time

On Instagram, Anne Twist posted a haunting tribute to her son’s former bandmate. She posted a picture of a broken heart with the three-word caption, “Just a boy…”

Followers shared in Anne’s grief.

One wrote, “Anne, take care of yourself and please take care of our Harry for us! Mental health is everything! We love you.”

Another paid tribute to Liam, “He had a huge heart. What a loss for those who knew and loved him.”

“My heart aches. Poor Liam. Sending you, the boys, and Liam’s family love. Just heartbreaking,” a follower wrote.

The X Factor posted on its official X account about Liam’s death, “We are heartbroken by the sad passing of Liam Payne. He was immensely talented and, as part of One Direction, Liam will leave a lasting legacy on the music industry and fans around the world. Our thoughts are with his friends, family, and all who loved him.”

Ronnie Wood also expressed his sadness on X, “I am shocked and saddened to hear of the death of Liam Payne. It was a pleasure to work with him on our X Factor performance. God bless Liam, thinking of all his loved ones. He will be dearly missed.”

Liam’s family shared a statement posted by iHeartRadio on X, “We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time.”
