There’s a thrill that comes with particularly risky activities like skydiving. Though, for many, that’s a huge part of the appeal. Still, even the biggest dare devils would be second guessing their choices if something like this happened to them. Luckily, Luiz Otavio Mesquita was up for the unexpected challenge. The challenge? To get rid of the tangle in his parachute in order to save his own life.

As difficult as that may sound to accomplish, somehow, it looks even more challenging. And thanks to the camera Luiz was wearing during his dive, we actually can watch this harrowing moment. Things went well at first, but soon, his first parachute got so tangled, he couldn’t use it. See how Luiz dealt with this life-threatening ordeal in the viral video below.

Here is what seems to have happened. Once Luiz’s first chute got too tangled, he tried to use his backup. This was also a challenge because, according to one commenter, “it didn’t de-glove.” With mere seconds left before he’d hit the ground, Luiz was forced to manually rip the bag off at the last second, allowing the backup chute to do its job.

When This Skydiver Gets Tangled in His Parachute, He Has Mere Seconds to Save His Own Life

Moments like this remind us that skydiving truly isn’t for the faint of heart! Of course, this certainly doesn’t mean you can’t find ways to make the experience your own, like this guy who went “couch surfing.” But no matter the method, one thing is for sure: Skydivers have nerves of steel!

“This guy doesn’t lie on his resume when he says [he] can work under pressure,” someone points out about Luiz, with another person adding, “That’s the closest I’ve ever seen a sky diver come to the ground without a parachute. He must’ve had a lot of experience, because I would’ve been done for.”
