Heartwarming Charity Helps Senior Citizens Find Loving Homes For Their Pets Before They Pass

When Angela Rafuse decided to adopt her grandfather’s pet cat after the senior passed away in 2019, she had no idea that this act of kindness would lead to her starting her own charity. All she knew was that Mackenzie, a 14-year-old feline with a cantankerous attitude, needed a new home. Since no one else in the family was willing to put up with the animal, Angela took her in. It wasn’t until she began posting videos of the cat online that she realized what a common situation this was.

As Angela shared her adventures with Mackenzie on social media, she learned from commenters that many seniors struggle with what to do with their pets when they are no longer able to care for them. This gave the woman an idea. What if she created an organization to help elderly animal owners rehome their companions? Fast forward to 2025, and the charity is celebrating its 300th adoption!

Angela shared a sweet video on social media celebrating this impressive milestone with a big “300” made of balloons. In the clip, she decorated the inflatable display with photos of the adorable pets she’s helped rehome!

This charity is named after the cat who started it all.

In honor of the feline who initially got the ball rolling, Angela named her organization My Grandather’s Cat. She told the beautiful story of how this surly kitty inspired her to help seniors find new families for their pets on the charity’s website.

“I’ve always believed you can be the change you want to see in the world, and My Grandfather’s Cat is the embodiment of that,” Angela said. “We are making a difference, one adoption at a time.”

Not only does My Grandfather’s Cat help seniors find new homes for their pets, but they do so at no cost! Both rehoming and adopting pets through this organization is completely free.

Thanks to this charity, hundreds of seniors have been granted peace of mind knowing their pets will be cared for after they pass away. Keep up the great work, Angela!
