When Ashley Giselle took her 8-year-old son to the park for his birthday, it would be just the two of them. They brought a small cake with a candle shaped like the number “8.” James was content. People appeared under their pavilion asking if they could help James celebrate his day. And that is how a group of strangers sang “Happy Birthday” to a delighted young man and his mom.

The strangers were a family who came on foot, bikes, scooters, and rollerblades. Standing around the picnic table, the strangers sang “Happy Birthday.” Ashley led the singing while James smiled broadly. When the singing finished, James got a high five from someone, and the family left as quickly as they had arrived.
Nobody seemed to notice or care that the birthday candle never got lit. The pavilion was afire with the brightness of love, offered without condition, so a young boy and his mom were not celebrating alone. Ashley recorded and posted the wholesome moment, which has been seen by almost 155K people so far.

The comments section has notes from new grammies, aunties, cousins, and more wanting to send James gifts. Ashley hasn’t posted an Amazon gift list yet but is responding to many folks in the comments section. So many others are offering James a Happy Birthday message and sharing their blessings. The response has been overwhelming, bringing many people to tears.

Kudos to the family who stopped initially. The extra voices singing “Happy Birthday” meant so much to James and his mom, strangers or not. This memory will be a bright spot in that young man’s life.
Please share this message. There is always time to sing a song.
