For 23 seasons, LuLu Roman entertained millions with her beautiful voice and bigger-than-life personality on Hee Haw. Sadly, she passed away on April 23 at age 78. According to Variety, LuLu once told the 700 Club that Buck Owens helped her get her big break on Hee Haw. She recalled how Buck told her one day she’d be a star, but he told him to keep dreaming.

“But, when they put together the ‘Hee Haw’ show, there were a couple of fellows from Canada that had seen ‘Laugh-In’ and thought, ‘This could be a good thing. We could do country music in this and do real well.’ So they made a list: one gorgeous blonde and one gorgeous brunette; one girl-next-door type and one boy-next-door type; one fat, dumb man and one fat, dumb woman. Buck said, ‘I got your girl. She’s in Dallas!.'” LuLu Roman said.
LuLu Roman eventually landed the gig and became a huge star thanks to Buck and Hee Haw.
LuLu Roman Began To Have Health Issues Later In Life
According to a 2022 GoFundMe created by her son, Damon Roman, LuLu Roman struggled. Damon wrote, “Mom’s health has been deteriorating. In addition, her personal and professional stability has been threatened. So much so, that I had to make an emergency trip to Nashville at the beginning of December. In the last couple of weeks, we have been able to stabilize and rebalance her health and her life in general. But it has become clear to me that Mom needs constant care and attention for her to continue to thrive. So I have made the decision to move back to Tennessee.”
It’s unclear how she died, but LuLu Roman left a mark on the hearts of those who loved her.
Her friend Diana Goodman McDaniel wrote on Facebook, “I just don’t have the right words to express grief over losing my dear friend Lou (Lulu) Roman…. I’ve spent all day trying to formulate some sort of a post…… nothing that comes to mind seems to measure up or be enough…… so…..on every level LuLu Roman was a rockstar.!! Faith, family, friends, music……she raised the bar!”
