Emmy explained, “The judges picked three songs, and the only one I knew was Coal Miner’s Daughter…I just remember seeing that, and I was so mad.”

She said it really made her mad because people had preconceived notions about how she ended up on the show. “People are going,’ Oh, you’re here because of nepotism,”‘ she shared.

Emmy Russell Had a Plan For “American Idol

The new mom said she envisioned a Hunger Games scene, and Katniss Everdeen later revealed that District 12 is in serious trouble for coal miners. It seemed like a strange, almost serendipitous coincidence.

“It was just how I wanted to play it, and I had this entire vision for it,” she said.

Fans commented on the post that they knew Emmy had real talent despite her family lines. Anyone who saw her perform as a younger girl on her grandmother’s tour would know she has talent, and she didn’t get where she is because of who her grandmother is.”

This person agreed, “I never got to experience that, but I knew just by the audition that Emmy has so much talent and a gift to share with the world.”

This fan loved Emmy Russell’s rendition on American Idol, “I’ve been singing along to your Memaw’s songs for over 50 years. Loved her voice. Your rendition of Coal Miner’s Daughter is beautiful! Katniss!”

This fan agreed, “Oh my gosh, I wondered why she was dressed like that! How did I never put it together? Excellent Emmy!!”
