Bruno Lobo is no stranger to seeing his name in headlines. He is a gold medal-winning Olympic athlete from Brazil, after all. But the reason he’s in the news right now has less to do with his athletic accomplishments and more to do with the life he saved. Though, he’s not entirely unfamiliar with this either, considering he’s also a doctor! This harrowing moment took place on January 10.

Despite the weather conditions not being the best, Lobo chose to test his new camera out on the water. He hoped to capture some skilled moves on his kite, but those plans changed when a woman screamed out for help. In an instant, Lobo could tell that she was drowning. So, he did everything he could to approach her as quickly as possible. Catch a glimpse of this successful rescue mission in the video below.
“I tried to calm her down and asked to climb on my back, she was quite tired and without strength,” Lobo writes in a post that was translated from Portuguese. “I used the equipment to bring her safely to the sand where the lifeguards performed the first aid at the seaside and thanks to God everything went well.”

Once Lobo got the woman back to shore, she quickly reunited with her friends. There were also medical personnel at the ready to examine her. Needless to say, both Lobo and the woman are oh-so grateful he chose to go out on the water that day.
“Words can’t describe my gratitude!” the rescued woman writes in reply to Lobo’s social media post. “It was the salvation that God and my guides sent to me. I really could not handle it if I spent five minutes on the high sea, even knowing how to swim and using anti-drowning techniques. I wish you showers of blessings in your life!”
