On TikTok, Joshua Pettit has been chronicling life with his mom, Betty, who has end stage Alzheimer’s disease. His account currently has over 265,000 followers, and his videos of caring for Betty amidst her ever-increasing memory loss are both tender and enlightening.
In the video below, Betty has just finished breakfast with her longtime husband, Bob, when Josh points to his dad’s apron. On it is a beautiful photograph of their wedding day from many decades ago. As they quiz her on who is who, Betty immediately recognizes her husband, but has no idea the bride is herself.
When asked why she remembers him and not herself, she leans into her husband and sweetly says, “He’s my guy.”
It’s simply too sweet for this world, folks.
