Florida is known for many things: beautiful beaches, Walt Disney World, and delicious food, to name a few. Snow, however, is far from anyone’s mind when they picture the Sunshine State. But this week, something totally unexpected happened. Thanks to a major winter storm, much of northern Florida has been covered in snow.

To say that this is a historic event is not an exaggeration. Snowfall totals have officially beaten the previous record by several inches. In case you were not aware, the Waffle House Index is an actual thing. Because these restaurants so rarely close, when they do, it’s a good indicator of the impact weather is having on an area.

In addition to the snow, sleet, and freezing rain added ice to the roads. This, of course, makes driving nearly impossible. But despite the chaos the winter storm has brought, it’s clear folks are also having a lot of fun. I mean, how can anyone not appreciate the weird beauty of snow on the beach?

Local meteorologists are saying that some areas have gotten over half a foot of snow. How crazy is that!? Without a doubt, this week will go down in Florida weather history.
“This storm is unprecedented for its breadth and scope; we just don’t have anything we can compare it to,” Meteorologist Ivan Cabrera says. “This will go down in history as the Gulf Blizzard of 2025.”
