Being a homesteader means facing challenges almost daily to be self-sufficient. For Jess, homesteading in North Carolina means caring for goats, chickens, bunnies, and other animals. Nothing prepares you for being in an empty house and hearing the sounds of an intruder in another room. When she went to explore, not knowing what to expect, she discovered a pair of culprits. She did not have seeing a turkey break-in on her bingo card.

In fairness, there is no way to prepare for the heart-stopping sight of a turkey break-in. Turkeys are enormous and can be unpredictable. Fortunately, Jess’s birds are mostly docile. The birds are part of her menagerie, so she isn’t afraid once she sees them. However, she has no clue how they had managed to break in. Her only thought was that she may have left the door partially open, and they pushed it open to explore.
These two turkeys always seem to be up to no good. When Jess leaves, they chase the car as it travels down the driveway. They’re a lot faster than most people think.
The wild turkey gang thinks they run the homestead. The shenanigators seem to appear wherever Jess is, following her around like twin stalkers. No one has figured out their game plan. If they’re vying for November pardons, they might want to quit eating. Right now, they are wanted criminals, plump and delicious-looking.
The recent turkey break-in is not the only time they have let themselves into the house. Any time the door is left slightly ajar, they walk in and look around. Jess has raised these guys as pets, so we’re pretty sure they are not on the menu.
Please share these nosy little turkey intruders.
