No one knows how he ended up wandering around a set of active railroad tracks in the heart of Los Angeles. But something had to be done.

In February, a Good Samaritan grew concerned when she saw a pit bull roaming around train tracks in the Compton neighborhood of Los Angeles. She contacted Hope for Paws, a local rescue organization, and volunteers immediately set out to capture him and bring him to safety.

Meanwhile, the sheriff had already been notified about the situation and had stopped all train traffic while the rescue effort was underway. But this frightened pup didn’t make it easy.
When they arrived, the first thing rescuers noticed was a deep wound on his shoulder, probably a result of being hit by either a car or train.
He needed immediate medical attention, but he was skittish, running further and further away whenever they called to him.

What they needed to do was set up a trap to prevent him from getting any further. Two volunteers stretched a net across the tracks, attempting to block his way so the others could catch him from behind.

But he was so determined to get away that he managed to slip through …

A third rescuer managed to race ahead of him and herd him back the other way. As he turned, the fourth volunteer, Loreta Frankonyte, quickly slipped a snare around his neck.
Although frightened, this sweet, lost boy seemed to sense he was in safe hands at last. He soon received medical care for the gash on his shoulder, as well as a broken jaw and fractured teeth, all injuries that likely resulted from the same accident.

This lucky pit bull – now named “Hulk”– thrived under the care of his foster mom, and was happier and healthier than they’d ever seen him, and within just a couple months!
