Kids grow up in the blink of an eye, so one dad came up with the most adorable way to document his daughter’s childhood. Every year, on the first day of school, Ray Petelin records a sweet “interview” before Elizabeth heads off to class. He recently posted on social media that his little girl is now a senior in high school, so this would be the last time they’d share this cute tradition. This final interview will bring you to tears!

In his adorable video, Dad started out by asking his daughter to provide her name “for the record.” Next, he asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up. Throughout this conversation on Elizabeth’s first day of school as a senior, Ray included footage from previous interviews to show how the girl had grown over the years.
One of the cutest things about this post is how many times Elizabeth changed her mind about her career path. Some of her aspirations included becoming a doctor, a teacher, a magician, a waitress, or an open-heart surgeon. However, in her final interview, the young woman seemed to have settled on her future as a nurse or physical therapist.
At the end of each video before the first day of school, Elizabeth’s father made sure to tell her how much both her parents loved her. During this segment of the final interview, though, it sounded like Dad was getting a little emotional.
“Are you gonna cry?” the teenager asked, smiling.
More parents should definitely try this!
This precious interview before Elizabeth’s first day as a high school senior has received over 36 million views online. Commenters were touched by this wonderful father-daughter tradition. Many wrote that the video had brought them to tears!
“He was definitely about to cry and so are we,” wrote one user.
Another said, “‘Are you gonna cry?’ Elizabeth we are ALL crying.”
These interviews are such a beautiful way to commemorate a child’s school years. We hope lots of parents on social media get inspired to do the same with their kids on the first day of school!
