Australia is a beautiful country that is known for many things, their dangerous animals included. Still, many of these creatures are quite a sight to behold — at least from a safe distance. The cassowary, a massive bird that is native to Northern Australia, is the perfect example. While these feathered friends are interesting to observe, they’re also considered to be the most dangerous bird in the world.

You can imagine, then, that it might be a bit stressful to have a cassowary approach you while you’re relaxing on a beach. This nerve-wracking moment happened to Hayley Smith and her best friend… but it didn’t turn out as you’d imagine. While it’s clear the moment was stressful, both of the women found the humor in the situation, too. See for yourself in the video below!

Can anyone really blame that cassowary for being so interested in a Big Mac? Still, while this curiosity was understandable, Hayley’s friend was not going to give up her food. Naturally, this led to folks leaving comments on the video like, “Ma’am, give the dinosaur your burger,” and “One of the few animals that even Steve Irwin wouldn’t mess with and you’re just LAUGHING at him.”
Meet Dave, the Curious Cassowary You Can Find Roaming the Beach in Australia
As always, it’s important to stay safe whenever you’re interacting with any wild animal, especially one like the cassowary. In fact, it’s best to keep your distance. That said, based on the comments Hayley left on her own video, this cassowary is no stranger. In fact, he’s been named Dave!

According to Hayley, Dave is known by locals and tourists alike. She even notes that “tourists feed [cassowaries] and now he thinks he has rights,” adding that, “He’s been stealing people’s food for years. He’s even a [dad] now and his chicks come and say hi.”
So, if you find yourself on an Australian beach in the future, you just might meet Dave yourself! Just make sure to keep a safe distance…
