Climbing Mt. Whitney is no small feat. According to the USDA website, “the trail gains over 6,200 feet of elevation before reaching the summit in Sequoia National Park.” You can’t just show up and expect to walk the trail, either. Thankfully, Andrea was able to get the necessary permit.
This plucky young woman and her 70-year-old landlord had to prepare their bodies for the Mt. Whitney excursion with vigorous training. It’s a good thing they did, because they were on the mountain for three days! During this time, they spent their waking hours carrying 40 pounds of supplies and their nights sleeping in tents. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to reach the top of the mountain due to the snowy conditions.
“We spent three days on the mountain and did not meet anyone who made it to the top,” Andrea wrote in her caption.
Still, she captured some spectacular pictures from their hike. Even if they couldn’t reach the top of Mt. Whitney, Andrea and her landlord were treated to truly stunning views. Her post received so many positive comments, both about their admirable achievement and their sweet friendship!
“That’s not your landlord that’s your adventure buddy,” wrote one user.
“70-year-old champ!” added another. “My goal is to be able to keep climbing at that fast approaching age.”
Apparently, the elderly man’s endurance on the trail was pretty impressive, as Andrea wrote in her reply.
“If I was not slowing him down he would probably make it further,” she joked.
What an amazing trip! We’re sure neither Andrea nor her landlord will forget it any time soon.
