Is Disney Finally Stopping The Live-Action Remake Trend?

View at a distance of a massive billboard for Disney's live-action remake of "Snow White" In this billboard, Snow White rests outside amidst a countless number of woodland creatures, the sun shining down on them all. A quaint house is at a distance.

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but Disney has been making a lot of live-action remakes lately… maybe too many, if you ask certain people. Their venture down nostalgia lane began way back in 2015 (a whole decade ago, if you can believe it). Since then, they’ve released a number of live-action versions of some of the most beloved animated classics. This includes The Jungle Book, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and more.

While many of these films have been met with love, others… not so much. Over the course of a decade, a growing number of fans have reached their limits with these live-action remakes. This has been true for quite some time, but it’s never been clearer than with the ways fans have responded to the latest: Snow White. The movie has underperformed so badly, in fact, Disney has taken action that have us wondering… are they officially done with live-action remakes? Find out more in the video below.

Tangled is far from the only live-action remake that Disney has announced but not fully made just yet. Here is a list of others that have yet to be filmed:

  • Hercules
  • Robin Hood
  • The Aristocats
  • Bambi

Disney has not made any official statements about these movies. That said, it would make sense that their futures are as uncertain as that of Tangled at the moment.

Disney’s Decision to Halt Production on Tangled Puts Into Question the Future of All Their Live-Action Remakes

Some fans are disappointed, of course. But a large number are actually relieved. While many of these animated films are classics, the general consensus is that the live-action remakes rarely do the originals justice.

“JUST RECREATE THE ORIGINALS. It’s not a hard concept,” someone online shares, putting into words how many fans feel. “Just make the originals but live action. That’s it. It’s that simple.”

Another adds what they hope will come from the halting of Rapunzel and, hopefully, live-remakes overall: “How about making NEW movies and stories.”
