During an emotional press conference. on Monday, March 4, the former Philadelphia Eagles center announced that he was leaving the league after 13 seasons.
“This all brings us here today, where I announce that I am retiring from the NFL,” Jason said through tears. “… And today, I must admit, I am officially overrated, vastly overrated. It took a lot of hard work and determination getting here.”
Travis was in the audience that day, also fighting back tears, as Jason detailed all of the sentimental reasons he had for following his passions and becoming a pro football player. Many of the reasons involved his childhood and school years with Travis.
On their shared New Heights podcast, Travis Kelce reflected on Jason’s accomplishments and shared why he’s heartbroken.

During their chat, Travis revealed that they hadn’t had many conversations about the retirement since Jason broke the news. And Travis asked if he inadvertently pressured Jason to stay.
Jason interrupted and said he would have “changed” his mind had he realized how much Travis wanted him to keep playing.
“You’ve always been a step ahead of me in this game,” Travis said to Jason. “It’s always been like I had that flotation device right there. To have you out of it, man it feels empty. It definitely feels like … it’s complete.”
At that moment, Travis had to pause and collect himself, and Jason sweetly acknowledged his brother’s emotions.
“It was a fun a** journey to watch,” Travis continued. “And like I said yesterday, I just appreciate you showing me the way.”
With a smile, Jason shared that he’s looking forward to giving Travis the entire stage while he cheers on the Kansas City Chiefs tight end for the remainder of his career.
“It was cool being the tag team of the National Football League, man,” Travis added.
The Eagles chose Jason Kelce as the number six pick in 2011. And he went on to spend his entire career with the team. During his time on the field, he earned one Super Bowl Title. He also got six first-team All-Pro selections and seven Pro Bowl selections.
