When coffee shops began offering “pup cups,” Starbucks jumped on the bandwagon with the Puppuccino. The item isn’t on the menu, but everyone knows about it. The special dog treat is whipped cream served in a small cup. Dogs love it. K-9 dogs are no exception when it comes to a delicious pup cup.

When Officer Brandon Coats ordered his K-9 Rex a pup cup online, the drive-thru line wait was too long for the poor dog. Rex paced back and forth for an incredible 45 minutes between the order and getting his treat.

During that time, the highly-trained K-9 officer seemed to forget every bit of his training. Officer Coats did try to get the K-9 to settle, but the allure of the pup cup was too much. As they approached the window, Rex attempted to intimidate the employees to make them move faster. It didn’t work. Although he is a big Belgian Malinois, the employees kept working at their own pace.

Rex eventually got his special treat, and it was gone in seconds. We’re unsure why, but Officer Coats calls his dog Zeke in person, but Rex in any written caption. Bonding with the large dog wasn’t easy, and the officer discussed it with his TikTok followers. But now that they have that bond, they will remain together even after the dog retires. When a police officer and his K-9 work together, they must rely on each other in stressful situations. When they can share the enthusiasm of a K-9 pup cup, it reinforces their bond.

Are Pup Cups Safe For Dogs?

Many people wonder about how safe it is to give a K-9 a pup cup. With moderation, most animals can have whipped cream with no problems. Some dogs may have issues, but Rex does not seem to experience anything beyond love for his pup cup. If your animal is lactose intolerant, they may have difficulty with these treats.

Many restaurants and coffee houses offer special treats for free or for a minimal fee. Some places have a little twist. At some McDonald’s restaurants, your pup might find a stray chicken nugget in the bottom of their pup cup! The secret to obtaining this off-menu item is to ask nicely, with a please. Don’t forget to tip your barista or server as your dog enjoys their delicious treat!
