It’s a really hard day for Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos. The couple had to say goodbye to their dog, Chewie, who died on February 4 at 17 years old. Kelly and Mark talked about their beloved Chewie on the February 5 episode of Live with Kelly and Mark. And it’s no surprise Kelly Ripa broke down in tears, losing a dog is just like losing a member of the family.

Kelly, too upset to speak, let Mark explain what happened to Chewie.
“Chewie had stopped eating for a couple of days and had been eating less and less for the past few weeks. She was extremely dehydrated and had some neurological stuff going down,” he said. “And you think, ‘Okay, I’m doing the right thing, this is going to be not easy but…’ It’s probably one of the toughest things we’ve had to do as a married couple.”
Mark added that anyone with a pet understands the grief. “But knowing that we did the right thing because it was just going to be really, really, really bad over the next few days for her.”
Kelly Ripa Cried Big Tears Over Her Little Dog
After wiping her eyes, Kelly said. “I’m really sorry. I thought I got it all out, guys. I really thought I got it all out and I apologize because this is not how I wanted this to go down.”
Mark consoled his wife as she explained that this was their family’s first big loss, and it really hurt.
“I feel very bad crying in front of you when people have — there are much bigger problems in the world, and I understand that. But you have to understand that this dog was so special, and she was such a great girl,” she said.
Kelly and Mark, we totally get it and think you should cry all the tears you need. Chewie knew how much you loved her, no doubt about it.
