The one-child policy in China was in effect only until a couple years ago, affecting millions of babies, the majority of them girls.

One such little girl, a one-month-old baby, was discovered inside a cardboard box near a train station in Hunan and taken to an orphanage. That’s when her life turned around, thanks to Chuck and Kim Walker.
The couple already had one son and one daughter, but “we just had a feeling that our family wasn’t complete,”Kim Walker explained.

McKenzie “Kenzie”Grace Walker said she “was alone, and nobody was with me, and nobody cared,”but that was before the Walkers fell in love with her at first sight and adopted her. Within days of arriving in China, the adoption was completed, and they flew home to introduce her to her siblings.
It was apparent the moment they arrived home that they had a budding singer on their hands: As soon as they walked through the door, Kenzie’s attention was drawn to an alarm clock hanging in the kitchen. When the chimes started to go off, her mother recalled, Kenzie chimed in with her own pitch-perfect imitation.

Then she started imitating other sounds around the house, including the couple’s rooster alarm clock, and her mimicry was always eerily perfect.

“Wherever we went, she would hum along with music. It became obvious that it was just a part of who she was,”Kim Walker said. “She would sing as she was playing, even when friends were over, she’d plan these elaborate programs … It was just, it was a part of her everyday world.â€
“I remember when I was even five when I started voice lessons, I was like, ‘Mom, I want to be a famous singer,’”Kenzie, now 14, recalls.

Now her dream has come true. She’s performed all over the United States and has released an album.

Now Kenzie has partnered with an international organization to raise awareness about the plight of orphans and to raise funds for the construction of orphanages.

In the video below, you’ll hear Kenzie sing “Orphan,”a song with special significance to this young singer.
Be sure to share to spread news of this touching song, and awareness that there are so many young children, and even older adolescents, who are still waiting to find loving homes to call their own.
