The Utah school served as the backdrop for the 1984 classic, and after this year, it will shut down. Because it is the film’s 40th anniversary—and the last year students will flood the iconic building’s halls—they wanted Kevin to help make their prom extra special.
So the students have been putting together social media videos and flash mobs under #bacontopayson to get Kevin’s attention. They also promised to raise funds for the actor’s SixDegrees.org foundation if Kevin Bacon made a cameo at their prom.
Kevin heard their pleas.
Kevin Bacon Inspired by Students at Payson High School
On March 22, the entire student body gathered in the gymnasium for a special video call from the actor himself. And he announced that next month, they’d get the chance to meet him in person.
“I have been so impressed with everything that’s been going on there with this crazy idea to get me to come back,” he said to the silent crowd. “You know, I don’t need to say it, but the movie and Payson High School was a big part of my life. I’ve been amazed at the work that all of you have put into this with the musical, and the flash mobs, and the recreations. It hasn’t gone unnoticed by me. Not to mention the fact that you’ve tied in Sixdegrees.org, our foundation, and are trying to figure out ways to give back to your community. It’s really inspirational.”
“So, thank you, thank you,” he continued. “I’m gonna come. I gotta come.”
According to the Today Show, Payson High School’s prom is about one month away. And they’ll be there to catch Kevin Bacon on camera. So be sure to check back for clips of the special day!
