Having food allergies can make eating a bit complicated — so imagine what it must be like to be a parent of a kid who is so allergic to peanuts, even trace amounts could take their life. That is the exact experience of Sara, who goes by foodallergiesonthego on TikTok. At only 7 months old, one of her sons had a severe reaction. In the five years that followed, Sara was meticulous about keeping any amount of peanut butter as far away from him as possible… that is, until now.

With the supervision of medical professionals, Sara’s kid was given a single peanut in a controlled environment in hopes he’s become more tolerant. As you can imagine, this was quite an emotional moment for Mom. After five years of doing her best to protect her son from peanuts, it was incredibly difficult to watch him eat one, even under medical supervision.
Still, Mom watched on as her son happily took a bite, seemingly more excited than nervous, as can be seen in a video she shared on TikTok.
“The tears were a big mix of anxiety, disbelief, fear, happiness and old trauma,” Sara captioned the video. “It’s hard to flip gears after 5 years of avoiding something so strictly. But here we are.”
In reply to someone’s comment, Sara was happy to share that her son tolerated the peanut well! Now, their goal is work up his tolerance over the next year. How exciting!
Watch Sara document this nerve-wracking yet thrilling moment for her and her son in the video below.
