Matt Gannaway and his four children — Ethan, 13, Peyton, 11, Addison, 9, and Kaidan, 5 — were tearing down the 40-year-old shed in Marshalltown, Iowa, in preparation for Matt’s mother’s planned move this month.
The project was going according to plan until the end, when they were waiting for the roof to fall.

As a precaution, Gannaway told his children to step back, then handed his cell phone to Ethan, telling him to call 911 if anything went awry.
And it did.

“It came down like it was supposed to, but then it flipped over sideways and knocked me out and pinned me underneath it,”Matt recalled.
Ethan called 911, then the four children set to work to save their unconscious father. The roof probably weighed several hundred pounds, but– aided by an adrenaline rush– two of the children were able to lift it while the other two pulled Gannaway out from underneath the wreckage.
