For animal lovers, kindness extends to “all creatures great and small.”

Lacey Scott is an artist who specializes in sculptures of “little creatures, big personalities.” The same could be said for her newest pet, a 10-year-old fancy goldfish she named Monstro.
Lacey was in a pet store one day when she spotted Monstro lying dejectedly on the bottom of a murky tank. He had been so badly neglected that he had lesions on his belly from not being able to swim.
No matter how low the odds seemed that he would recover, Lacey couldn’t bear to see him in pain. So she took him home and set up a shallow “fish hospital.”
She changed the water in his special salt tank every single day, and he quickly started to perk up and eat again!
“I don’t think people realize just how much good, clean water can help a fish,” Lacey said.
Once he started eating, I did eventually treat him with one round of medication just to be safe, which I think helped speed things along. But it was touch-and-go in the beginning. I honestly didn’t think he was going to make it, but I couldn’t stand the thought of such an old fish wasting away the last of his days alone in a store.
Thanks to her excellent care, Monstro began to bulk up – and change colors!
Eventually, Lacey was able to move him into an 85-gallon tank with a few new fish friends. The little guy is thriving and continues to grow bigger and stronger with every passing day!
When Lacey shared a short video of his amazing transformation on TikTok, it went viral! While she was shocked, she understands that people really need to see a “win” during these challenging times.
“I don’t know how long he has left, but he’ll spend the rest of his days happy and loved,” she added.
This animal lover clearly has a heart of gold! We’re so glad she shared Monstro’s moving transformation with the world!
