Mom Starts Laughing During Ultrasound & The Footage Will Have You Laughing, Too

Image shows a developing fetus in an ultrasound image.

They say that laughter is good for the soul. After watching this video, you might still think that, but you’ll wonder if it’s good for the fetus. A mom undergoing an ultrasound procedure can’t stop laughing. For the mom, laughter releases happy endorphins, some of which are transferred to the fetus. For the baby, it is like a rollercoaster ride.

Not to worry. The baby is perfectly safe within the womb, even during heavy laughter. While it does look violent in the video, the baby only feels a gentle rocking or swaying. The womb has great cushioning, and the baby floats in amniotic fluid. The contractions that appear to be squishing the little human feel like a warm embrace in the womb.

Laughter may increase round ligament pain for the mom. Because of how the fetus grows, the ligaments around the abdomen stretch. That can sometimes cause minor discomfort, which can be worse with laughter. If you’re an expectant mom and it hurts to laugh, applying pressure to the area with a small pillow can ease the discomfort.

Unlike the laughing ultrasound, these images show happy pregnant women. Left image is a woman kissing the pregnant belly. Right image shows a smiling women holding her belly.

There have been studies that prove a mother’s happiness during pregnancy helps with fetal brain development. A developing baby experiences what the mom does. That includes sounds, foods, and emotions. When you’re happy, your baby is happy.

The action released endorphins when this mom updated her neighbor about her pregnancy via a Ring doorbell. Those hormone boosts helped fetal brain development. Even if you’re not laughing like the mom in the ultrasound video, every tiny bit of happiness helps.

Parents working together during pregnancy to promote a happy environment helps with the fetus’s brain development. So, laughter really is the best medicine!
