Lily Collins and her husband, Charlie McDowell, welcomed their first child in January. The excited couple shared images of their daughter, Tove Jane McDowell, on Instagram along with a joyful announcement. Lily Collins announced her baby’s birth via surrogacy on January 31. She wrote on Instagram, “Welcome to the center of our world Tove Jane McDowell. Words will never express our endless gratitude for our incredible surrogate and everyone who helped us along the way. We love you to the moon and back again…”

The baby’s birth marked an exciting moment for the couple, as for all parents, but some comments on Instagram aimed at how Tove came into the world. This did not sit well with the couple, who clapped back.
Charlie McDowell Addressed Surrogacy on Lily Collins’ Instagram Post
The proud father shared his disgust for comments like this, “We have the world we deserve; we adopt dogs, but we buy humans.”
Charlie wrote, “Thank you for all the kind messages and love. We are overjoyed and very grateful. In regards to the unkind messages about surrogacy and our path to having a baby— it’s ok to not be an expert on surrogacy. It’s ok to not know why someone might need a surrogate to have a child. It’s ok to not know the motivations of a surrogate regardless of what you assume.”
But the dad wasn’t finished and made sure to defend Lily Collins and surrogacy. Charlie McDowell continued, “And it’s ok to spend less time spewing hateful words into the world, especially in regards to a beautiful baby girl who has brought a lot of love into people’s lives. That’s all for now because she just pooped and I need to change her diaper.”
Many fans shared their support with the couple. Someone wrote, “This comment section is wild. What if she couldn’t get pregnant? What about other women who can’t get pregnant? Surrogacy is a beautiful thing. Congrats Lily!“
Another shared her congratulations with Lily Collins and Charlie McDowell on their baby and surrogacy journey. “Late into the comments section but welcome beautiful Tove to this beautiful family and world! Horrible comments from some peeps here, really uncalled for, and the best way to deal with it is to ignore ’cause those people don’t matter in our lives way to go, Lily!”
